Gyeran-Jim (Korean frittata with green onion)

This is nice frittata-like traditional dish in Korean cuisine. If if you think it resembles an omelet (an easy to make mistake if you look at the ingredients) you couldn't be wronger. The main thing which is different is the unique texture obtained by adding water and by cooking it in a water bath. The result: a deliciously airy and puffy and moist dish, spicy and light-tasting at the same time.

Enjoy. :)
Recipe source: here.

Last year: no cooking due to another kind of bun in the oven.

Ingredients (serves 1-2):
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 green onion, sliced
  • 100 ml water
  • 1/2 teaspoon gochugaru (Korean chili powder)
  • a pinch of salt

Beat the eggs with the salt and gochugaru (if you can't find any, you could replace it with regular chili powder, but you'll lose a bit of its ethnic flavor).

Chop up the green onion and add it to the eggs. Also add the water and mix well. Put the whole thing in a heatproof bowl and put the bowl into a large pot of water:

Make sure the water reaches half of the bowl's height. Bring the water in the larger pot to a simmer and cover it. After 20 minutes, the Gyeran-Jim is done. Remove it from the pot and dig in! :)
