Red wine pears and Camembert

A wonderful tasting starter, refined enough to impress and easy enough for children to do it. Inspired by a similar recipe in the Romanian Marie Clare of December-January. You must try it, the sour flavor of the pears and the creamy and herbal aroma of the Camembert result into something truly beautiful.

Ingredients (serves 2):
  • 2 small pears (any sort will do)
  • 450 ml red dry wine (we used Bordeaux)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 100 g Camembert

Put the wine over medium heat in a very small pot (to make its level acceptable for the pears to be at least covered with wine). Add the cinnamon:

Wash and peel the pears, leaving their little twigs uncut:

Put the pears in wine and let them boil for 25-30 minutes, turning them once in a while so they get evenly "wined":

Cut the Camembert into equal pieces (6) and arrange them on two sides of a pretty and large serving dish:

When the pears are done, put them next to the Camembert pieces on the serving plate. Serve while hot, with knife and fork for the pears. The combination is going to taste greater than you expect, trust us. Dig in! :)
