Sangria (Spanish) (vegan)

The classic red wine and citrus juice drink the Spanish enjoy cold, sort of a cool counterpart of the Northern mulled wine. :). "Sangria" literally means blood and I think that's very passionate :). It's slightly milder and more diluted than wine, but a lot sweeter and more flavorful. A nice thing to have around for parties, guests or Spanish food. :)
Recipe source: here.

Happy birthday, Dad! :)

Last year: Cajeta (Goat milk caramel) (Mexican).
Two years ago: Straciatella cream pie (Italian).

Ingredients (for 1 liter of Sangria):
  • 750 ml dry red wine
  • 125 ml fresh orange juice
  • 125 ml water
  • 100 ml Cointreau or some other orange liqour
  • 100 ml brandy
  • 1/2 of an orange, sliced
  • 1/2 of an lemon, sliced
  • 50 g sugar

Put all of the ingredients in a small pot. Bring to a boil, then remove from the heat.

Allow it to cool, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours before serving. When you're ready to consume it, discard the fruit slices and add fresh ones to each glass. It's done, dig in! :)

P.S: You can also add a stick of cinnamon to the liquid before bringing it to a boil; it's a known variation. We prefer not to because we like to be able to discern better between Sangria and mulled wine, but to each his own fancy :)
